Captain Don’s Habitat has always had the concept of Total SCUBA Diving Freedom. Over 50 world class SCUBA dives are within a 15 minute boat ride. SCUBA Diving Freedom means 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with no rush. Take a giant stride off our SCUBA divers-only pier “baby dock” and you’re already looking at clusters of starlet coral, surrounded by colorful wrasse and gobies, and the drop-off starts in 30 feet, only a few kicks away. Shore diving is a must at Captain Don’s Habitat and around the island of Bonaire rated as the top shore diving destination in the world! Following accepted safe diving practices, you can grab a tank and go….whenever you want!

General Information

Captain Don’s Habitat is one of the great SCUBA diving resorts in Bonaire. Founded in 1976, by renowned underwater environmentalist Captain Don Stewart, Captain Don’s Habitat has been in the forefront of environmentally sound developments on the island of Bonaire. His vision is also reflected in the design of the resort.

Scuba Highlights

Captain Don’s Habitat Dive Operation is a PADI 5-Star Gold Palm Resort and an SDI 5 Star Professional Development Center. It is centrally located within the resort complex for easy access from all rooms. We have three 1-tank boat departures daily, at 8.30 AM, 11 AM and 2 PM, to over 70 moored sights on our custom built dive boats.

Marine Life

Green and Hawksbill turtles, Green eels, Sea Horses, Frogfish, Stingray or Eagle ray, Lobster, Pipe fish, Octopus, Squid, Barracuda and Angelfish. In rare occasions we see Manta Rays. If one is very lucky you might spot a Whale Shark or Pilot Whale. We get about 35 visits a year from pods of Dolphins. Both bottle nose or spinners can be seen riding the bow or cruising by in open water. While on the boat we can encounter flying fish while cruising the shore line to the dive sites.

Bonaire is located in the Southern Caribbean about 50 miles off the northern coast of Venezuela. The fact that it lies outside the hurricane belt and with our almost continuous sunshine and great weather, makes it an ideal vacation spot throughout the year. Captain Don’s Habitat is located at Kaya Gobernador Debrot 103. Just 2mi or 3 Km from down town Kralendijk and about 6 mi or 10 km from the Flamingo International Airport.
